South Asian Wedding at Royalton Splash Riviera Maya: The Complete Guide by Ruiz Films

10 min read

Royalton Splash Riviera Maya is the resort for families who want their South Asian wedding to feel like a vacation for everyone: a large all-inclusive resort on the Caribbean coast between Cancun and Puerto Morelos, with an ocean-view rooftop for the ceremony, terraces made for a Sangeet under the stars, ballrooms for the reception and a full water park that keeps the youngest guests happy all weekend. Officially named Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, it is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection and sits about 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport.

At Ruiz Films, we have spent more than 15 years photographing and filming destination weddings: over 500 celebrations, more than 250 of them Hindu, Sikh and South Asian. In March 2026 we documented Hetal and Danny's Indian wedding here, from the Mehndi on the terrace to the last dance in the ballroom, and this guide is written from that experience. It covers the Royalton Splash Riviera Maya wedding venues, how each one looks and feels, the light, and what a Hindu wedding here really involves, so you can picture your own celebration before you arrive.

Why Royalton Splash Riviera Maya Works for South Asian Weddings

Royalton Splash Riviera Maya combines the energy of a family resort with elegant, modern event spaces: room for a big guest list, and enough different settings to give every event of the weekend its own look.

A celebration for every generation. With more than 1,000 suites, a large water park with slides and lazy rivers, kids' and teens' clubs and family suites, grandparents, cousins and children all have something to enjoy between events. For an Indian wedding, where the whole family travels, that matters.

An ocean-view rooftop for the ceremony. The resort's rooftop wedding venue, open to the sky with the Caribbean behind it, is one of the most striking places in the Riviera Maya for a mandap. Hetal and Danny's Hindu ceremony took place on an ocean-view rooftop terrace dressed in white, with sheer canopies and a floral mandap.

Terraces for the Mehndi and the Sangeet. Open-air terraces with string lights and sea breezes are made for an afternoon Mehndi or a Sangeet that starts at sunset and turns into a dance party.

Ballrooms for big receptions. The Grand Cenote and Blue River ballrooms give you a climate-controlled stage for a grand entrance, a first dance and a late-night party, whatever the weather.

Everything in one place. Restaurants, pools, the spa and the event spaces are all within the resort, so your guests stay, eat and celebrate together across a long wedding weekend, with the airport close enough for easy arrivals.

Mehndi & Haldi

Hetal and Danny began their weekend with a relaxed Mehndi on an ocean-view terrace, with henna, drinks and the first dances of the celebration. The next morning their Haldi moved to the sand: white umbrellas, blue tile panels, yellow flowers and two golden lotus thrones facing the Caribbean, then a turquoise sea to wash off the turmeric. We recommend a morning Haldi on the beach, when the light is soft and the colors look their richest on camera.

Sangeet

The Sangeet is where the terraces shine. For Hetal and Danny, a pink tiled dance floor under string lights became the stage for dandiya, choreographed performances and a group photo full of energy, with the night sky behind it. An open-air Sangeet gives you the sunset and the breeze; for a full production that runs late, the ballroom is the alternative.

Baraat & Wedding Ceremony

Danny's baraat started at the resort entrance, with family and friends dancing in mint green and the groom lifted on his friends' shoulders before walking to the ceremony. Up on the rooftop, the white mandap, the floral canopy and the ocean on every side made the Hindu ceremony feel open and full of light.

Morning and late-morning ceremonies work beautifully on the rooftop: the light is bright and clean, and the sea breeze keeps guests comfortable in heavy outfits. Your planning team will coordinate the sacred fire, the ceremony sound and the timing of the baraat with the resort.

Reception

For the reception, the ballroom was transformed with white draping, a monogram dance floor and a gold-frame stage. Receptions here are made for grand entrances, a first dance with sparklers, heartfelt speeches and a dance floor that keeps going long after any outdoor event could. Between moments, the resort's colorful Mexican details, from the skull mural to the Rincón del Beso, made for playful portraits.

Royalton Splash Riviera Maya Wedding Photographer: The Ruiz Films Approach

Every resort has its own rhythm, and after photographing and filming Hetal and Danny's Indian wedding at Royalton Splash Riviera Maya, we know how this one breathes. That experience shows in the final images and films, and it makes the wedding days easier for you and your family.

Caribbean light. Bright, clean light reflects off the white architecture and the turquoise sea, and turns warm and golden in the late afternoon. We plan portraits and ceremony timing around the best light whenever the schedule allows.

A resort full of portrait locations. Pergolas, white walls, boardwalks through the palms, lifeguard towers on the beach and a rooftop infinity pool give couples a different backdrop for every outfit, without leaving the resort.

Moving between venues. A multi-day South Asian wedding means outfit changes, family portraits and hundreds of guests moving between the beach, terraces, rooftop and ballrooms. We plan routes and timings with your planning team so photography and film never slow the celebration down.

Vendor access, already handled. Every resort has its own requirements for outside photographers and videographers. We are based in Mexico, fully insured and familiar with the resort's process, so our access is arranged long before your wedding week.

Our in-house team of five attends every wedding personally, working together at every event. Our style blends editorial portraiture with documentary storytelling, the kind of imagery published by Junebug Weddings and Maharani Weddings Magazine, and cinematic wedding films that let your family relive the entire celebration for years to come.

What a Hindu Wedding at Royalton Splash Riviera Maya Involves

A Hindu wedding is not a single event. It is a series of rituals and celebrations spread over several days, often with guests flying in from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India. Before choosing your dates, it helps to understand everything that goes into an Indian destination wedding in the Riviera Maya:

Guest rooms and arrivals. Wedding groups usually reserve a block of rooms for their guests, and resorts set their own requirements depending on the group, the dates and the events. Managing hundreds of reservations and changes is a job in itself.

The sacred fire, the mandap and the baraat. The havan for the pheras, the mandap design, the ceremony sound and the dhol all need advance coordination and the right permissions.

Music hours. Outdoor venues generally allow entertainment until around 11:00 PM. A Sangeet or reception that will run late belongs in a ballroom.

Indian food. The resort's culinary team prepares Indian menus, so regional dishes, vegetarian and Jain options and tastings should be planned event by event.

Season and weather. The Riviera Maya celebrates weddings all year round. December through April is the most requested window, with dry, sunny days, while the warmer months bring lush greenery and spectacular sunsets, with the ballrooms as an easy indoor backup.

A word for couples flying in photographers or videographers from the US or Canada: Mexico's customs regulations around professional camera equipment are real, and foreign vendors traveling with professional gear can face delays, confiscation or denial of entry at the airport. Booking a Mexico-based studio like Ruiz Films eliminates this risk.

None of this is complicated when the right people manage it, but it is a lot for a family to handle alone, especially from another country.

Why We Recommend a Specialized Indian Wedding Travel Agency

After hundreds of South Asian weddings, our advice is the same for every couple: plan your destination wedding through a travel agency that specializes in Indian and South Asian weddings. They know which resorts suit multi-day celebrations, how to structure each event and what every property requires.

A specialized agency negotiates group conditions, manages your room block and your guests' bookings, coordinates flights and transfers, and guides you through the permissions that rituals like the sacred fire or the baraat require. Your family receives clear, complete proposals from someone who works for you, not for the hotel.

Hotel Coordinator vs. Specialized Wedding Planner

The resort's wedding coordinator manages the hotel's side of your wedding: venues, menus, policies and internal teams. An independent wedding planner who specializes in South Asian weddings leads the celebration as a whole: the rituals, the timeline, the family and the many vendors involved, from mandap designers and mehndi artists to dhol players and choreographers. The smoothest weddings we photograph are the ones where a specialized agency and an independent planner work together with the resort.

A Typical 3-Day South Asian Wedding at Royalton Splash Riviera Maya

Day 1 — Welcome & Mehndi. Guests arrive and settle in, followed by an afternoon or evening Mehndi on an ocean-view terrace, with music, food and dancing.

Day 2 — Haldi & Sangeet. A morning Haldi on the beach, an afternoon at the pools and the water park, and the Sangeet at sunset on a terrace, or in the ballroom if the party will run late.

Day 3 — Baraat, Wedding Ceremony & Reception. The baraat and the Hindu ceremony on the rooftop, followed by cocktails and a reception in the ballroom into the night.

Your planning team will shape the final schedule with your family, and we adapt our coverage to it, from the first ritual of the morning to the last song of the night.
